Scanning in Egghelende a Kestrel was found and bookmarked and Starwalker was imagining a surprised mission runner wondering what had just happened when they found their ship destroyed. However, as the Rifter dropped out of warp to zero there was a POS and the usual bubble surrounding it. Inside was the Kestrel, unreachable. Disappointment is an understatement.
Starwalker knew that a POS could be dangerous and so started to burn away whilst trying to examine the structure and defences. That was a mistake as the sentry guns fired and the shields immediately dropped precipitously and the shield alarm sounded. Starwalker knew that he was in deep trouble and should have warped away earlier. Desperately he tried to warp but it was too late as the second volley tore through structure. The Rifter was destroyed (http://r1fta.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10263330) and only the pod remained.
Whether it was naivety or stupidity or both – the next decision was fatal for Starwalker’s Probe. Starwalker decided that he would collect the loot from the wreckage of his Rifter using his nearby Probe. The Probe warped to 100km and then burned towards the wreck and just as the Probe arrived so did the first volley from the sentry guns. The probe had no real defence and was now simply gone (http://r1fta.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10263379) as well.
Lesson learned - the hard way.
