The asteroid belt was called and Starwalker warped into zero calling “In bound” but just as the flight started the Taranis moved. The new belt was called “6-3” and Starwalker responded with “In bound”. The Taranis was at the belt but 200km away and Starwalker called that fact and suggested that he loiter with the intent of being bait.
Starwalker spent too much time communicating to the Rebels via chat and not watching the Taranis closely enough. The Taranis had taken the bait and was engaging the stationary Rifter – first mistake. It took a few vital seconds for Starwalker to get moving and into orbit, scramble and fire and all the time the Taranis was inflicting damage along with its two Warrior II drones. Starwalker had the scramble and called in the other Rebels. They arrived and the Rebels started to do a number on the Taranis but Starwalker was in deep trouble too and the Rifter and Taranis were both in structure together.
If Starwalker’s Rifter could hold on for another few seconds the Taranis would be destroyed and the Rifter would survive. Second mistake, as the other Rebels were there it was long past the time to leave. Alas, survival was not to be and the Rifter exploded (http://r1fta.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10264204) first and moments later so did the Taranis (http://r1fta.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10264202).
The journey back to base to reship was uneventful but given the control towers had destroyed a Rifter. There was no ship ready to go apart from the Drake. Whilst the Drake was not really ready for gank it did have a reasonable tank and so Starwalker piloted the Drake out from the dock and into space, heading back to Amamake.
Starwalker never made it to Amamake. The Drake was caught after jumping into Hadozeko by a Cynabal. The warp was jammed and Starwalker tried to burn back to the gate without aggressing the Cynabal as he was suddenly surrounded by many pilots baying for blood. It was too late and very quickly the Drake (http://r1fta.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10264360) was no more and likewise for his pod (http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=13913139).
After moving to lowsec, Starwalker had lost 4 ships within the space of a few hours and whilst it was painful and not a great start, more lessons had been learned – the hard way.
